Stars on Canvas 2012 – Charity Online Auction

Finished painting for the Stars on Canvas charity art auction in aid of The Willow Foundation. Using pebbles as heads The Pebble Heads series caricatures People and life in modern British society. I am am regularly commissionjed to paint Pebble Head Portraits of family groups, friends, lovers… I also painted The Pebble Heads Royal Wedding. This piece will be auctioned alongside exactly the same sized canvases created by names from sport, TV, film, art and entertainment, culminating in an exhibition at Maddox Arts, London W1 from 29th – 1st Dec. It was an exciting afternoon today as two of my art print deckchairs were featured on The Alan Titchmarsh Show. He even sat in one! Summer might be over for the rest of us in the UK but for Alan Titchmarsh the grass is always greener and it’s never too late to enjoy sitting in a deckchair in the garden. My poppy pieces are popular with visitors at exhibitions. This deckchair uses a detail from a painting in The Signification of the Poppy series. It was originally going to be used for a garden makeover programme with Titchmarsh but it was decided he’d prefer to feature them on The Alan Titchmarsh Show.

The true scale of the painting

The painting is nearly the width of my studio. The painterly ‘sun’ is setting and has given me joy in my heart, its good to be back. Goodbye computer, hello paint!

Seascape commission – preliminary paintings

I think top left is the most pleasing composition, with a low horizon there’s that sense of space and distance. These are to scale but the actual painting is 200 x 130cm, that’s a lot of sky! Plenty of room for the starlings, which are a key part of the painting.
