Saatchi Gallery sold 2 of my paintings in 3 days

This painting sold for $750 on Saatchi over the weekend.

This was closely followed by ‘The Lads’ which sold on Monday.

It was selected for a collection  Affordable Original Art for $500 and Under by Rebecca Wilson, Chief Curator of Saatchi Online and Director of the Saatchi Gallery.

Artists stride into London’s Mayfair for Stars On Canvas Launch

Last night, several artists from JAG Gallery in Brighton strode in to London town to attend the private view for Stars on Canvas 2012. An exhibition an charity auction of over 300 artworks by stars from the worlds of stage, screen, art, music and sport.

The public exhibition at Maddox Arts Gallery got off to a fine start,  marking the run up to the penultimate, final day of the auction the exhibition runs until Saturday 1st December. So bid now while there’s still time and raise money for the Willow Foundation.

The launch drew a large crowd and the night was buzzing with bidders, celebrities and artists alike.

There are over 300 artworks to bid on, and two of them are mine. This event has raised £50,000+ in past years! With some artworks receiving bids of several thousand pounds. Now, I’m never going to catch up with the stars commanding the highest prices by hammer time, but there have been several bids on my pieces and it’s time for the final push!

Painting of Vanessa Feltz and her husband Ben Ofoedu for Stars on Canvas 2012 in aid of The Willow Foundation.  Jacqueline takes commissions to paint Pebble Head Portraits of people. Using the natural contours of pebbles to paint the subject’s features, the pebbles are then glued to the canvas as the heads for the bodies of people caricatured.

The painting below depicts a typical day ‘Beside the Seaside’ here on Brighton seafront. In this piece I have used several pebbles from the beach as heads for the people taking a stroll along the promenade. I look for natural markings, chips and contours on the pebbles that can be used to resemble facial, hair and head gear type features. A hole in the pebble becomes a mouth, a chipped area separates the face from the hair and so on. Sometimes I paint on a face, sometimes I need do no more than a dot for an eye.

This piece depicts the view from the Palace Pier in Brighton, England. At dusk, with the sea at low tide, the sunsets are incredible and an endless source of inspiration for a painter. The usual view to paint tends to be where the sun sets as the cloud formations and colours light up the sky. The Golden Hour.
The light emitted from the sun at this time of day can feel soft and soothing, therefore this series uses a more pastel coloured palette. The view is unusual as paintings of Brighton are far more likely to feature the piers, particularly the burnt out West pier rather than the seemingly uglier, concrete Marina. The groynes are prominent at low tide, this repetition of contrasting, solid lines against the mirror like shallow waters are also important to the composition.

The paintings in this series of seascapes preceded the similar but square works. These first studies have a spontaneous quality that comes with the initial response to a subject. The detail is more delicate and somehow finer. The birds that feature in several works, are starlings doing their sunset dance, and is a spectacle that’s hard to replicate in paint, compared to first-hand experience. The movements they make as a flock, the swirling shapes, the swoops overhead are incredibly absorbing as well as beautiful, the birds have an impeccable synchronicity that’s humbling and one of those wonders of nature that has the power to make human beings pause and observe
