This small vignette of a woman in an orange swimming costume and a young child at the seaside is one of a series of paintings titled ‘A Little Piece of the Beach.’ The paintings are closely detailed studies of people on the beach or in the sea, created as preliminary work for the ‘Life’s a Beach’ paintings which detail the whole panoramic of a beach from a bird’s eye point of view. The artist paints the shoreline vertically, dividing the canvas in half.
